is your faucet dripping? we’ll show youhow to fix three types of two handle faucets—ceramic disc, compression and cartridge. first – determine which side is leakingby turning off the shut off valves one at a time. if the leak doesn’t stop on thefirst valve, it’s the other line that’s leaking. for stuck shut off valves turn off the waterat the main valve. after you’ve determined which side is leakingturn off both water supplies. then turn on the faucet to release any residual water.close the drain and place a towel in the sink to help protect the sink.

remove the aerator. if it won’t unscrew,soak a towel in white vinegar and wrap it around the aerator to help loosen mineraldeposits. after an hour, gently twist off the aerator. as you’re working lay the parts in orderand snap a picture to help with reassembly. put them in a plastic bag and take them tothe store. your faucet repair may only require one specificpart, but it’s usually best to get a new kit and replace everything. also buy a newaerator if yours is damaged. keep in mind these directions are typical,but check the manufacturer’s instructions for your faucet.

to repair a ceramic disc faucet, loosen theset screw and take off the handle. remove the retainer nut and pull out the cylinder.rather than repairing the discs and seals, it’s best to buy a new cylinder. set itin, and reassemble the faucet. with compression and reverse-compression faucets,you’ll need to replace the washer and o-ring or gasket on the valve stem, and the valveseat in the faucet. first, take off the handle, then unscrew thevalve stem. on the stem remove the old gasket, screw andseat washer. apply some plumber’s grease and add a new gasket, seat washer and screw. next remove the valve seat with a seat wrenchor hex wrench, and insert a new one. then

put everything back together. to fix cartridge faucets, unscrew the setscrew to take off the handle. then remove the retaining clip or nut. gently pull outthe cartridge. pop in a new cartridge, and reassemble thefaucet. for all faucets turn on the supply valve slowly,and without the aerator, let the water run for a few minutes to flush out any debris.clean a dirty aerator by soaking it in white vinegar. rinse it and screw it back in. and that should solve your faucet leaks. want more great ideas and how tos? go to click to subscribe.
